Framers Friday: Everything in Focus

Stormy Sunrise

Here is what I wrote:

This is the only picture I took this week. I’m not even sure if it qualifies for this theme as I didn’t do a whole lot with this image. A Front rolled through while the sun was rising. I quickly snapped this with my android phone. It doesn’t do justice to what I viewed with my own two eyes. Nonetheless, I think it turned out nice. These were thin stormy clouds with blue sky shining through some portions.

Sunrise {Golden Hour]

Henbit Deadnettle (Lamium amplexicaule)
Shot February 3, 2021 for the “single focus theme”.
This was taken during “golden hour” and it’s an alternate.
The flower is still in the bud stage.

52Frames‘ theme for this week is “golden hour”. Golden hour1 is the magical time during sunrise and sunset that casts a warm glow on its subject(s). Where I live, it’s typically 50 minutes give or take a few minutes. I have an app that tells me when these moments occur.

I don’t mind rising early or staying up late to achieve whatever I set out to do.  In fact, I love watching sunrises and sunsets.

So, what’s my problem?

The weather is going to be my grief. It’s predicted to be partly cloudy, cloudy and raining all week. I may or may not get a chance to shoot for golden hour. I will need to have camera ready and tripod handy just in case the clouds give way to the sun during this special window of time.

In the meantime, what to do?

I’m going to have to fake it. This will be another week of a massive learning curve for me. Off the top of my head, I will most likely use a flash off to the side and bounce it off a gold reflector to give the subject(s) the warm glow needed that’s typical of golden hour.  My husband has one of these reflectors from his days of his interest in portraits. So, I’ll borrow his.

I still don’t know what I’ll shoot. I suspect it’ll be a self-portrait of some kind.

  1. Photography.  This term is used elsewhere.  e.g. The medical world — the critical time for EMTs to save a life.

There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under the heavens:

a time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot,
a time to kill and a time to heal,
a time to tear down and a time to build,
a time to weep and a time to laugh,

a time to mourn and a time to dance,
a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing,
a time to search and a time to give up,
a time to keep and a time to throw away,
a time to tear and a time to mend,
a time to be silent and a time to speak,
a time to love and a time to hate,

a time for war and a time for peace.
