Framers Friday: Break the Rules

Christmas Spirits

Here is what I wrote:

I am currently away from home for the holidays. I saw the pretty bottles and had an idea. I tried blue light to convey “blue Christmas”; but, it did not turn out as I envisioned. So, I went with an orange color filter from my light painting kit. I tried to subtly break the rules and still get a good image. I feel like the Rule of Thirds (two bottles placed in the center of the picture), the Rule of Odds (six bottles total), Sharpness (not all bottles are in focus) were broken. Also, the background is cluttered with bokeh from Christmas lights which many would find distracting.

I find it ironic that I used alcoholic bottles for this challenge because my body does not like alcohol. I suppose it’s a blessing as I most likely would be an alcoholic due to my addictive nature.

Someone mentioned she thought the horizon was tilted as well.  So, all in all, many rules are broken.

This is the last picture for 2019.  A brand new year starts!

  1. I think it’s a gorgeous photo, and I think the bokeh in the background is what makes the photo. If Columbus hadn’t broken the rules, America wouldn’t have been discovered. Sometimes breaking the rules is necessary to discover new things…especially where creativity is concerned…in my opinion.

I don’t drink anymore, either, and haven’t had any for 20 years. I’m so grateful to be free of that snare, I never want to touch it again.
